Keep your dog safely in winter conditions
Weather The winter can be fun and exciting for the whole family dogs included. There are, however, some potential dangers to your dog you must keep in mind. The concern of the first and perhaps most obvious is the cold.
All dogs must have their time, but if you live in a climate where the temperature is cold, this time should be limited. Of course, some breeds and mixed breeds are built for cold, but even these dogs must be checked on the legs and frozen ice caps. Dogs with short hair should not be left outside for long, cold walk and a sweater is a good idea. It is my belief personal no dog should be tied and kept outside all the time, but if your dog has to spend time outside, a kennel of some sort is absolutely necessary. The dog needs protection against the wind and the need to keep dry. Also, make sure your dog has water which is not frozen.
There are other potential dangers to the dogs outside in the cold. Halite, the melting ice is a poison chemical if swallowed.
