Super Bowl XXV
Background
NFL owners voted to award Super Bowl XXV in Tampa in May 20, 1987 meeting. Was the second time that Tampa hosted the game, the city was previously a Super Bowl XVIII, January 22, 1984.
Bills and Giants entered the game with style mixed: While the Bills have the league in total points scored (428), the Giants led the league in fewest points allowed (211).
Giants New York
Main article: 1990 New York Giants season
In 1990, the New York Giants were built to head coach Bill Parcells' specifications of football "power": a strong defense and an offense that has experienced extremely long drives. The Giants defense has ranked second in the league in total yards allowed under (4392) and first in fewest points allowed, and boasted three Pro Bowl selections: defensive tackle Erik Howard and linebacker Pepper Johnson and Lawrence Taylor. The secondary was led by defensive back Everson Walls, an offseason acquisition of Dallas Cowboys, who recorded six interceptions. The Giants' offense has been spectacular, ranking only 17th in the league in yards gained and 13 points marked. But opposing defenses Team wore very large units, which maintains a violation of his opponents on the sidelines and prevent them from scoring. More importantly, the Giants established an NFL record by losing only 14 turnovers in a 16-game regular season. An important reason for success the offense the team has been blocking linemen Bart Oates and William Roberts, the Pro Bowlers that in the crime. Dave Punt Returns Meggett led the NFL in yards in punt returns (467), while gaining 492 yards on punt returns production, running 164 yards and 39 assists the capture of 410 meters.
New York began the regular season by winning their first 10 games, and then spun and lost three of its next four years. A week after losing to division rival Philadelphia Eagles, 3113 101 of the Giants were defeated in Monday Night Football in a defensive battle with 73 of 101 San Francisco 49ers, who won the two previous Super Bowl and ended the regular season with a better record in the NFL 142. Then, in 1713, losing to the Bills, New York City suffered a blow when starting quarterback Phil Simms went down the season with a broken foot.
replacing Simms, Jeff Hostetler, had started only two games in his seven years as a backup with the Giants. However, Hostetler clearly shows crossability and struggling in his limited playing time during the season and only threw one interception and made no sales. With Hostetler at the helm, the Giants responded by winning their last two games to finish the regular season 133, good enough to win the NFC East based on and earn the second seed in the NFC playoffs.

The Bills have a talented team with nine selections Pro Bowl on their list. His defense was led by defensive end Bruce Smith, who recorded 19 sacks and won the NFL Defensive Player of year. Behind him, three linebackers bills starting, Darryl Talley, Shane Conlan and Cornelius Bennett was selected to the Pro Bowl. And special teams Pro Bowler Steve Tasker was a major threat, forcing fumbles, giving discordant tackles, kicking and blocking.
But as good as their defense was, the offense has been good flashy, high power, which has won the most attention. Unlike the Giants, Projects Bill generally used no-huddle, the storm through the field and score points quickly. Instead of going in a group after each game, quarterback Jim Kelly immediately returned to their offensive line of scrimmage and call it the game after reading the defense. This strategy Prevention of opposing defenses to good reading of the incorporation of bills, replacement, or even catch their breath.
Bills offense "Without a meeting K-Gun Kelly worked well enough to finish the regular season as the quarterback the best rated in the NFL (101.2), projection of 2, 829 yards, 24 touchdowns and only nine interceptions. One reason for its success was that he had two recipients of passes in circulation: Andre Reed, who has made his specialty is in the center of bias and road crossing, recorded 71 receptions, 945 yards and eight touchdowns, and the hall's future Fame James Lofton, who was the deep threat with 35 receptions for 712 yards (20.3 yards per catch average). Tight end Keith McKellar has contributed 34 receptions for 464 yards and five touchdowns. Pro Bowl running back Thurman Thomas had 1,297 yards rushing, caught 49 passes for 532 yards and scored 13 touchdowns. Thomas led the NFL in yards from scrimmage. A key to the Bills offense has been prolific blocking their superb offensive line, led by All-Pro center Kent Hull and the Pro Bowl guard will Wolford.
Although Kelly has missed the last two games of the season with a knee injury, suffered in the same game which the Giants lost Simms, the Bills have reached a record 133 regular season.

Los Gigantes began their championship rounds by easily removing the Chicago Bears, 313. For the "pilot" of the offense the power of football for the Giants, Hostetler threw only 17 passes, but two were for touchdowns, and he did not commit turnover. He also led an attack ground gained 194 yards, including 43 (and a touchdown) from Hostetler himself. But New York has lost another key player for the season when the ball carrier Rookie Rodney Hampton, the second broker team leader during the regular season with 455 yards, suffered a broken leg.
Sunday Next, the Giants upset the 49ers in San Francisco 1513 in the championship game of the NFC. The 49ers, a best-142 NFL regular season and winners of the last Super two bowls, six point favorites kickoff. His defense was outstanding led by future Hall of Fame, Ronnie Lott and defensive linebacker Charles Haley, who has led NFC in sacks. San Francisco offense is considered the best in the NFC, led by future Hall of Fame quarter Joe Montana and Jerry Rice receiver. However, with the exception of a touchdown pass of 61 yards Montana to wide receiver John Taylor, the Giants 49ers offense is very good. A sack by winger Giants defensive Leonard Marshall early in the fourth quarter beat Montana out of the game despite its great defensive effort, the Giants trailed Still 13-9 late in the fourth quarter, but a race 30 yards for a linebacker Gary Reasons punt glue up fourth area scorer Matt Bahr, reducing their deficit to 13-12. The 49's (now led by Steve Young) tried to run the clock at its next possession, but San Francisco running back Roger Craig had the ball dislodged by nosetackle Eric Howard, and Lawrence Taylor recovered a fumble in the air 2:36 remaining. Five plays later, Bahr launched his fifth field goal from 41 yards as time expired to give the victory to New York.
Regarding Bills Jim Kelly back from a head injury from Buffalo to a victory in playoff 4434 Miami Dolphins. Bills made jumped to 203 in early lead, but recovered quart Dan Marino's team back and narrowed the gap to 30-27 entering Buffalo in the fourth quarter. However, Buffalo scored a touchdown on their first album in five meters Thurman Thomas. Miami then lost a fumble on the kickoff that followed, the bills to put the game away from home with touchdown passes of 26 yards to Kelly Andre Reed. Kelly finished with 336 yards, three touchdowns and 37 yards rushing. Reed was also an important factor, recording 123 yards and a pair of touchdown receptions. Lofton made seven passes for 149 yards and a touchdown. Thomas led the ground attack with 32 carries Bills for 117 yards and two touchdowns, while catching three passes for 38 yards.
Buffalo and then crushed the Los Angeles Raiders 513, score the most unequal in the history of the AFC Championship Game. Bills defense "Raiders dominated the offense with no running back Bo Jackson, who suffered an injury late in his career against the Cincinnati Bengals last week, which limits a field goal at the beginning and intercepting five passes quarterback Jay Schroeder. Meanwhile, the Bills offense "established NFL playoff record with 41 points in the first half, put the game away by halftime. Kelly was 17 of 23 for 300 yards and two touchdowns to James Lofton. Thomas had 138 rushing yards 61 meters, and his backup, Kenneth Davis, tied a playoff record with three touchdowns.
Super Bowl pre-game news
The Bills were favored to win many Super Bowl XXV. Most experts expected that the defense Giants would not be able to contain the Bills' turbo offensive without a meeting, he had scored 95 points in two playoff games. Many also questioned the effectiveness of the Giants' offense would after failing to score a touchdown in a NFC championship game. Moreover, in the 15th week of the regular season, both teams met at Giants Stadium, where the Bills defeated the Giants in 1713.

Game Summary
To counter the offensive of Bills no-huddle, the Giants of the strategy was to use a racing game that uses the power OJ Anderson, helped by news of the watch, bootlegs and play action counterfeits. As winger Mark Bavaro later recalled, "[W] and came out with three tight ends, fat slobs, take that moves you and what you can NE face, if I could. "It allowed them to take time out of time and limit property Buffalo. The Giants set a Super Bowl record for time of possession 40 minutes, 33 seconds, including 22 minutes in the second half. On defense, New York wanted to be physical with receivers wide Buffalo, and playing with extra defensive backs to concentrate on stopping the Bills passing game, while admitting the current game.
The contrast was evident in the strategies during the first period. After forcing the Bills to Punt on the first series Game, the Giants used 6:15 on the clock marched 58 yards in 10 games to score a goal on the field by Matt Bahr 28 yards. On this record, New York conducted five parts theater and running pass five plays. But the Bills struck back on their next possession with five pieces and 66 yards that took 1:23 on the clock, including the completion of 61 yards peaks quarterback Jim Kelly to receiver James Lofton who created the Norwood Scott punt 23 yards to tie the score at 3-3.
After forcing the Giants to punt on its next possession, the Bills Strategy offensive began working to perfection. Kelly led the Bills to score in 12 plays 80 yards that consumed 4:27 ET moved the ball with such efficiency that the team never face third trial. Kelly completed six consecutive passes (four to Andre Reed) for 62 yards, and half Don Smith crowned the whole with a touchdown of a yard for an early lead Buffalo 10-3. Smith hit a run-yard was his only carry of the game and drag last of his career. May Reed receptions the first quarter reached a record Super Bowl.
After trading flat, the Giants have been pinned on their own line 7 yards. On second down, defensive lineman Bruce Smith, Jeff Hostetler quart licensed in the end zone for a safety increased incentive bills "12-3. In the game, Smith had a chance to force a fumble from Hostetler held the football with only his pitching hand. But to his credit, Hostetler held the ball away from Smith, helping to ensure that only the two points is established.
The Bills started on your disk and the great field position after a free kick, but have been forced to punt after three plays. Taking the ball at their own 13 – line with 3:43 left in the second, the Giants have abandoned their strategy long drive and used a quick attack to strike your account. Hostetler led the Giants 87 yards, scoring a 14-yard touchdown to receiver Stephen Baker with just 25 seconds left in the half to cut the deficit to 12-10 in New York.
The Giants opened the third quarter and resumed its original strategy game by driving 75 yards in 14 games to score the touchdown Ottis Anderson running a building site, taking head 17-12. The device uses a Super Bowl record, and nine minutes and 29 seconds (now replaced by the Giants in Super Bowl XLII), and included four successful conversions by third parties. The highlight was a 14-yard pass to receiver Mark Ingram, 3 down and 13 yards to go. Ingram caught a short pass and broke five tackles Buffalo for a first down to keep the unity of life.
After forcing Buffalo to Punt on their possession Next, New York led the 35-yard line bills. But in the fourth and two, Smith Anderson tackled for a 2-yard loss. Buffalo has taken over and taken assault by land, moving 63 yards in four plays and scoring on the explosion of a 31-yard running back Thurman Thomas in the first game of the fourth quarter, taking the head to 19-17. Thomas fourth race quarter touchdown scored 1000 points scored in the history of the Super Bowl (1001 not included).
However, before Bills defenders were able to catch your breath, they found themselves in the field trying contain another long journey Giants. This was one of 14 plays and 74 yards, half coming Hostetler pass to tight end Mark Bavaro, and took another 7:32 of the clock. The Bills managed stop the unit in its own 3-yard line linebacker Cornelius Bennett was Hostetler third attempt to pass, but Bahr launched his second field goal to give New York a 20-19 advantage.
Bills next possession, they could progress at their 41-yard line, before taking the land of Punt, allowing the Giants to take more time on the clock. The Bills finally forced New York Punt the ball and his 10-yard line with 2:16 remaining clean. Kelly then led the field with a mixture of noise, short passes and runs Thomas. Buffalo line led to the Giants 29 yards, setting up a punt 47 yards Norwood attempt with eight seconds to play. However, his shot went wide right, less than one meter vertical goalpost.
There were many impressive actions in the game by players from both teams. Jim Kelly completed 18 of 30 passes for 212 yards and no interceptions, while adding another 23 yards on six attempts. Jeff Hostetler completed 20 of 32 passes for 222 yards and a touchdown and ran for 10 yards. Dave Meggett registered combined net 129 yards (48 terrestrial, receiving 18 punt back 37, 26 Kickoff return). But the best performances of the two teams came from brokers. Ottis Anderson rushed for 102 yards, caught one pass for seven yards and scored a touchdown. Thurman Thomas scored a touchdown, ran for 135 yards and caught five passes for 55 yards, giving him 190 total yards of the line of scrimmage. Thomas 135 meters are most yards for a member of a team that loses. This was also the second Super Bowl in two of 100 runners meters.
The defensive game plan the Giants, writes by Bill Belichick, defensive coordinator, has been included in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. helped the Giants win the receivers coach Belichick and Tom Coughlin that employment land their names and eventually as head coach with the Cleveland Browns and Boston College, respectively. Today, Belichick is the head coach Patriots New England, while Coughlin was Boston College being the first coach in the history of Jacksonville Jaguars, and is currently the Head Coach Giants. Giants head coach Bill Parcells retired shortly after winning his second Super Bowl with the Giants. However, it has led three other teams from: the New England Patriots (who helped the Super Bowl XXXI) from 1993 to 1996, the New York Jets from 1997-1999, and the Dallas Cowboys from 2003-2006. Both Coughlin and Belichick have won a Super Bowl as head coaches: Belichick with the Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX And, with Coughlin Giants Super Bowl XLII, ironically against the Patriots Belichick.
This was the first Super Bowl in which neither team committed a volume business. The only other Super Bowl to date without a turnover is the Super Bowl XXXIV, where the St. Louis Rams beat the Tennessee Titans 23-16.
