Pug 101, help. suggestions. experiences?
Hey!
well within a couple of days I’m getting a Pug puppy. I am honestly very confused. I really have no past experiences with dogs! i just need some questions answered ;
1. How long should it be walked, and how often?
2. I live in a very small townhouse, I am gone from 7a.m-2p.m and am planning to leave it in the backyard(which is covered completely , so it will be in shade) till it is trained, how will it adapt so being outside so long?
3. What should i feed it for breakfast, lunch and, dinner? and how often should I feed it?
4. What is the average weight for a puppy?
5. How will it behave around an 11 year old?
6. Do they have sense of direction( will I eventually be able to walk it without the leash)?
7. What can I spray so it doesn’t have repeated accidents in the same place around the house?
8. What can i do for discipline?
I can’t believe someone that knows so little is getting a dog. First of all you need to sign up for puppy classes with a good qualified trainer in your area. They will be able to answer all of these questions and more for you and teach you how to properly care for your dog and manage the puppy behavior.
Your puppy should probably be let out to go potty about every hour. Walked about twice a day.
I would not leave puppy outside. What if it stormed? What if puppy managed to get out? Instead buy a crate and leave it in the crate. I would also have a trusted friend or better yet a pet sitter to come over around 11:00 and walk puppy.
Feed it dog food. a good high quality food like Eukanbua would be fine. Don’t feed cheap food or the puppy will poop a lot and have bad skin.
Weight depends on the breed
It should be fine around your 11 yr old
Most dogs can never be walked in a neighborhood without a leash. You can work in obedience toward this goal however
for your last two questions you need to consult a trainer. They can explain all of this to you as it is rather lengthy.
