My Greyhound Recycling
Some people think that dogs are dogs that love to chase a rabbit mechanics, and the end of their exciting career be recycled in a pet of the family – a good life in retirement. However, it is not only how history, in the case of my greyhound redesigned, simply beat the odds.
The real story is the life of a greyhound is not even close to Nice. When based on the race track, spending about 20 hours of the day locked in small cages barely large enough to keep stand or turn around. If statistics are below par, they are removed from the competition. A retired woman may end up being a little girl, to spend years on a farm more potential riders. Some retirees find themselves in veterinary research laboratories, because dogs have a universal blood group and they are very docile, easy to handle. The fate of adoption, and others are destroyed.
More than 15,000 dogs were recorded in 2009 (1). More were born, but I sacrificed, for they are not suitable for racing. Many suffer fractures legs or neck, paralysis of the spinal cord or go to a heart attack while competing and must be sacrificed. Some states do not require documents remain in injury or death, I think it is considered too much information to the public. The industry recognizes that destruction of thousands of greyhounds each year estimated at about 3000 (2).
I was surprised when I read recently that dogs have tested positive for cocaine on a track in Birmingham . It is difficult for me to enter my head by that cruelty. My husband took me to our local track to see first hand the offer. What I saw was mainly characters that must be considered the game's dark "work", and some semi normal people could have been looking for something different to do on a Saturday night.
Because despite the tireless efforts of GREY2K USA, a nonprofit group headed by the talented Christine Dorchak, who serves as president and chief counsel, only 23 titles are still operating in seven States: Alabama has three runways, one Arizona, one Arkansas, Florida has 13, Iowa has two, one from Texas and West Virginia 2. No more subjects most recently in Colorado, Kansas, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Oregon.
This group has been incredible power to prohibit greyhound racing by working with state politicians to adopt the Greyhound Protection Act, while undercutting attempts to maintain the tracks alive by subsidies and tax breaks, or the backdoor approach, where proponents of the pressure to a law legalizing slot machines as to keep the races live. If the tracks are able to obtain slots, they remain economically viable, and the dogs are always expendable.
Beating dog owners track is not easy. We adopted the approach of the core collection of thousands of signatures to place a measures to put an end to greyhound racing to the voters. People were records documenting the state of hundreds of wounded, as well as sequences Real Video horrific collision that are commonplace and photographs of greyhounds endure childbirth without end. This event gave the dogs a voice. And the number and strength of the people demonstrated that small groups of people can really make a big change.
Currently, a blogger dedicated to see that this last remaining issue in Arizona is closed. Is discussed issues related to this industry in no uncertain terms. There are something like 350 Greyhound rescue groups across the United States by volunteers to find a means of transportation, food, medical treatment of the house and the market of these dogs in the audience. If a track is closed, those groups in the network in an effort to place the dogs in all states. You can imagine the work constant due to a breach in the number of greyhounds who need homes in a state like Florida with 13 huge tracks. What say about my state of Florida? wins animal welfare game?
At first I was put off to know that my local rescue group has been neutral in the competition, but it occurred to me that people are dealing with ruthless and this is their way of making backups. I had the experience to members of a rescue group to pick up the dogs and space, it became available. We went to a kennel that was filled with all these beautiful dogs in all its wonderful colors in boxes stacked almost human eyes looking so intently at us as if to say, "Please pick me up. "He was sad to leave only two, and nobody can convince me that the other group came to the kennel particular, to collect the rest.
My Buddie greyhound, who ran for a short period of time under the name of Mr. Pibb, is an incredible dog recycled. He is gentle and affectionate and cuddly gives feet if permitted. He is an ambassador for his race with its charm to get hugs and kisses by the people wherever he goes. Most tend to think dogs are full of energy, but the truth is they are accustomed to being here and working for short periods of time. Other things that people usually do not know that dogs do not bark, they smell sweet and small shed, walk to your side with a strap enjoy and many cats. What more could you ask for a pet?
