Making a dog kennel qustion?

We may be making-buying outdoor kennels for our dogs. we have 4, but should they each have separate kennels, or not. they are indoor dogs, these will just be for when we are gone etc. Also, when making dog fences, what is CHEAP and STRONG?

I would suggest giving each dog his or her own space. Dogs can pick on one another (so the victim can’t get away) or fence fight with each other if another dog or animal comes up to the run. I’ve known of dogs to get a tooth caught in another’s collar, etc.

You can BUY ready-made dog run or kennels from places like Home Depot, Lowes, Tractor Supply, etc. Sometimes you can find them “used” in the newspaper in or just after the pet section. You can construct runs from Utility wire, but chain-link is stronger & harder for a thief to cut.

You will need to provide a dog house or shade/shelter for each dog. You will need to provide water. Many people use a bucket & clip it to the inside of the run to prevent it being turned over. They need fresh water EVERY day. Many people buy heavy stepping stones, 12 x 12 x 1 inch blocks, to put down as the floor vs pouring cement. (Both prevent digging).

IMO, you need to put a Master lock on each run, so it can ONLY be opened by YOU. Dog theft is not uncommon, esp in hard economic times. Stolen dogs can be returned for a “finder’s fee” (aka) ransom or can be sold to supply Bio labs for experiments.
